Big Donkey Kong Bananza Update Coming This Wednesday

Nintendo has officially confirmed through its Nintendo Today app that fans will get a special Direct presentation focused entirely on Donkey Kong Bananza this Wednesday, June 18. The broadcast begins at 6 a.m. PDT, 9 a.m. EDT, and 2 p.m. BST.

The company revealed the presentation will run approximately 15 minutes and showcase fresh details about this upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. Nintendo first unveiled this title during their April Nintendo Switch 2 Direct but has been sharing information gradually since then.

What We Know About the Game

Donkey Kong Bananza takes our beloved ape hero into a fully 3D adventure experience. Players control a redesigned DK who must collect golden bananas while racing against a villainous organization known as VoidCo. The game features a charming cartoon art style that brings new life to the classic character.

DK won’t be adventuring alone. A purple companion called Odd Rock joins him throughout the journey. True to his nature, DK can destroy and interact with environments around him, creating dynamic gameplay opportunities. Early previews have highlighted how satisfying the destruction mechanics feel during gameplay.

Recent Leaks and Character Details

Earlier leaks revealed interesting character connections within the game. Screenshots showed a younger version of Pauline potentially joining DK’s quest instead of Odd Rock. Notably, Pauline wore a purple bracelet that closely resembled Odd Rock’s design, suggesting these characters share some connection.

The leaked materials also confirmed Cranky Kong’s presence in the adventure, though Nintendo hasn’t revealed other Kong family members yet. This leaves room for surprise character announcements during Wednesday’s presentation.

Donkey Kong Bananza launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on July 17. This Direct should provide the comprehensive look fans have been waiting for since the game’s initial reveal.
