Nintendo dropped a fresh update for its mobile companion app yesterday. The company renamed the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app to simply “Nintendo Switch App” and packed it with features designed for the upcoming Switch 2 console, launching June 5th.
Easy Screenshot and Video Sharing

The biggest improvement is how Nintendo streamlined media sharing. Switch 2 owners can now upload screenshots and videos directly to the cloud through their console. The new system works in two ways: you can manually select content to upload using the “Upload to Smart Device” option in the console’s album, or turn on automatic uploads.
The automatic feature keeps your 100 most recent screenshots and videos synced to the app constantly. Nintendo stores these files in the cloud for 30 days, giving you plenty of time to download them to your phone’s camera roll for permanent storage. Once you hit the 100-item limit, older files get replaced by newer ones.
This change makes sharing content much simpler compared to the original Switch. Previously, you had to scan QR codes on your console screen and connect to temporary Wi-Fi networks just to transfer a single screenshot. The new method eliminates this tedious process entirely.
You’ll need a free Nintendo Account to use these features, but Nintendo Switch Online membership isn’t required.
GameChat and Zelda Features

The updated app also handles GameChat invitations better by sending mobile notifications when friends invite you to voice calls. Additionally, Nintendo added Zelda Notes functionality specifically for Switch 2 versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
Though not active yet, Zelda Notes will include achievement tracking, voice-guided directions to map locations you mark, and access to extra Princess Zelda memory sequences.
Nintendo Today App Updates
Nintendo also refreshed its Nintendo Today app with calendar integration, allowing you to sync Nintendo events and game releases with your personal calendar app. The update includes content favoriting, news filtering, and image zoom capabilities for better browsing.
