James Bond 007 Begins a New Mission in First Ever Origin Game

IO Interactive finally pulled back the curtain on their upcoming James Bond game during Sony’s State of Play presentation this Wednesday. The debut trailer for 007 First Light gave us our first real glimpse into what the studio has been cooking up for Bond fans worldwide.

This isn’t just another Bond adventure, it’s a complete origin story. The game takes us back to Bond’s early days as a fresh recruit in MI6’s training program. We get to see how the world’s most famous secret agent got his start, long before he became the polished 00 agent we know from movies and books.

Bond’s Journey from Navy to Secret Service

The story focuses on Bond’s transition period after leaving the Royal Navy. He’s young, skilled, but also a bit too eager for his own good. His MI6 supervisors describe him as a “bullet without a gun” – someone with incredible potential who needs direction before causing problems. They decide to give him a mission that could earn him the coveted “00” status if he succeeds.

Bond’s first major assignment involves tracking down agent 009, who has gone missing. The trailer shows Bond visiting various locations including an upscale mountain hotel, underground nightclubs, and corporate business events. Each location offers different ways to complete objectives, giving players freedom to choose their approach.

Gameplay Combines Stealth and Action

IO Interactive brings their decades of experience from the Hitman series to create a Bond game that feels authentic to both franchises. Players can choose between multiple gameplay styles depending on the situation. Want to sneak around and take out guards silently? Go for it. Prefer explosive action sequences reminiscent of classic Bond films? That works too.

The game shows Bond using various tactics, from smooth-talking his way out of dangerous situations to creating massive distractions by blowing up entire warehouses. Players can mix stealth, combat, and social interaction however they see fit for each mission.

Hakan Abrak, IO Interactive’s CEO, expressed excitement about bringing Bond back to gaming after years away. The studio wants to create a cinematic experience that respects the Bond legacy while telling a fresh story that hasn’t been explored before.

007 First Light launches in 2026 across multiple platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
