“Nintendo has given us a plastic screen,” he explained during the test. “This is not ideal. Metal objects that touch this screen will leave marks. However, plastic items like Lego pieces or the docking station won’t cause any damage.”
This discovery means users need to be extra careful when handling their console. Metal keys, coins, or other sharp objects in bags or pockets could easily damage the screen. The plastic material makes the display much more susceptible to everyday scratches compared to glass screens found on most modern devices.
Joy-Con Connection Impresses
Despite the screen concerns, the Nintendo Switch 2 performed remarkably well in other areas. The connection system between the Joy-Con controllers and the main console was particularly impressive. Many people worried about the small plastic piece used to attach the magnetic controllers when Nintendo first revealed the design.
Jerry tested this connection by applying force and trying to bend the controllers. Instead of breaking, the Joy-Cons simply popped off safely. “When a lot of force is applied, the Joy-Cons just pop off on their own,” he noted. “In my opinion, this is actually a good thing.”
The design prevents damage to the internal connection pins, even when the controllers are removed aggressively or forced off backward. The disconnection happens at a gentle angle that doesn’t stress the port beyond its limits. This clever engineering means the console can survive rough handling that might damage other handheld devices.
Overall Test Results
The complete durability assessment covered scratch resistance, heat tolerance, and connection strength. Despite initial concerns about the magnetic Joy-Con system, the Switch 2 proved more durable than expected. The plastic screen remains the main weakness, but the overall build quality impressed the experienced reviewer.
“The Nintendo Switch 2 passes my durability test a lot better than I thought it would,” Jerry concluded. The console’s ability to handle everyday use appears solid, though users should invest in screen protection to address the plastic display vulnerability. The smart Joy-Con design actually enhances durability by preventing damage during accidental drops or rough handling.
