Why Backbone Pro Is the Gamepad Every Mobile Gamer Has Been Waiting For

The new Backbone Pro is a big step forward in mobile gaming gear. Released not long after the Xbox Edition controller, it’s built for serious gamers who want top-quality features and smooth performance.

The Backbone Pro stands out for being super versatile. It gives two great ways to connect, use the USB-C for smooth, no-delay gaming on your phone or tablet without worrying about battery, or go wireless with Bluetooth to play on bigger screens like laptops, VR headsets such as Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro, or even Samsung smart TVs with Gaming Hub.

The new FlowState Technology integrated into the Backbone app impressed me tremendously. It remembers your paired devices, making switching between platforms nearly effortless.

Professional-Grade Design and Customization

The Backbone Pro features full-size joysticks and remappable back buttons while maintaining a relatively compact form factor. The design process behind the Backbone Pro was extremely detailed. Over 9,000 versions were tested, and more than 30 user studies were done to get everything just right. Backbone even used a special 3D camera system to study how hands move during gameplay, helping them shape the controller for better comfort and control.

Pro gamers and industry experts helped test and fine-tune the Backbone Pro before it launched, which led to a controller that feels great to use across all kinds of games. Every button can be remapped, and players can save different control setups for each game or platform, making it easy to switch between styles.

A Central Hub for All Your Games

The updated Backbone app transforms your gaming experience by centralizing everything in one place. It supports app store titles (including Apple Arcade and Netflix games), remote play services (Xbox Remote Play, Steam Link), cloud gaming platforms (Nvidia GeForce NOW), and even retro gaming through an integrated emulator.

The Backbone app supports built-in emulators for classic systems like NES/Famicom, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, and Nintendo 64. While ROMs can’t be uploaded to Backbone+ accounts, support for Nintendo DS, PlayStation 1, and PSP is being tested and will be added soon.

The new Smart Search feature lets you find and launch games across all platforms from one location. Backbone+ subscribers receive additional benefits including a rotating library of free games and enhanced functionality for the Pro controller.

The Backbone Pro will be available on Backbone.com with a premium price point of $169.99. It joins their existing Backbone One controller in their product lineup but offers enhanced comfort, controls, and a larger profile designed to elevate your gaming experience across more titles.
